Repentance

The principle that anyone who wishes to become a true Christian must admit their sin – and turn away from it – is central to the teaching of Jesus.

Cusì, its primary meaning is ‘to change the way you think:’ but this entails far more than a mere intellectual assent to a different way of thinking.

Siate cuntenta cù u vostru salariu,” (Lk 3:10-14).

Qualunque, dunque, romperà unu di questi minimi cumandamenti, and teach others to do so, shall be called least in the Kingdom of Heaven; but whoever shall do and teach them shall be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Mat 5:17-20)

“You have heard that it was said to the ancient ones, ‘You shall not murder;’ and ‘Whoever shall murder shall be in danger of the judgment.’ Ma vi dicu, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council; and whoever shall say, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of the fire of Gehenna.” (Mat 5:21-22)

“You have heard that it was said, "Ùn devi micca adulteriu;’ ma vi dicu chì tutti quelli chì fighjanu una donna per brama a so, hà fattu adulteriu cun ella digià in u so core.” (Mat 5:27-28)

“Si dicia ancu, 'Quellu chì mette via a so moglia, ch'ellu li dessi un scrittu di divorziu,’ ma vi dicu chì quellu chì mette via a so moglia, eccettu per a causa di l'immoralità sessuale, ne rende adultera; è quellu chì a sposa quand'ella hè rinviata, commette adulteriu.” (Mat 5:31-32)

“Di novu avete intesu dì chì si dicia à elli di i tempi antichi, "Ùn fate micca falsi voti, ma farà à u Signore i vostri voti,’ ma vi dicu, ùn ghjurà micca in tuttu ... Ma lasciate u vostru "Sì’ esse 'Iè’ è u vostru 'No’ esse 'nè.’ Ciò chì hè più di questi hè di u male.” (Mat 5:33-37)

“You have heard that it was said, 'Un ochju per un ochju, è un dente per un dente.’ Ma vi dicu, ùn resistite à quellu chì hè u male; ma quellu chì ti batte nantu à a guancia diritta, turnate à ellu ancu l'altru. S'ellu ci vole à caccià u to mantellu, lasciate ancu ellu u vostru mantellu. Quellu chì ti obbliga à andà un chilometru, vai cun ellu dui.” (Mat 5:38-41)

“You have heard that it was said, 'Amate u vostru vicinu, è odià u vostru nemicu.’ Ma vi dicu, amate i vostri nemici, benedica quelli chì ti maledicà, fate u bè à quelli chì vi odianu, è prega per quelli chì vi maltrattannu è vi perseguitenu... (Mat 5:43-44)

È, cum'è s'ellu ùn era micca una prospettiva abbastanza intimidante, Ghjesù riassume sta parte di u so discorsu dicendu,

“Dunque sarete perfettu, cum'è u vostru Babbu in u celu hè perfettu.” (Mat 5:48)

Ma di sicuru hè impussibile – o hè? Fighjemu un ochju più vicinu à ciò chì Ghjesù è i so discìpuli avianu da dì à questu.

Ci hè duie occasioni quandu truvamu Ghjesù chì dice à a ghjente di "ùn peccate più".’

Ghjesù,, stendu, l'hà vistu è disse, “donna, induve sò i vostri accusatori? Nimu ùn vi hà cundannatu?”
Ella disse, “Nimu, Signore.”
Ghjesù disse, “Neppuru vi cundannaraghju. Andate u vostru modu. Da avà, ùn pecca più.” (Jn 8:10-11)

Dopu Ghjesù u truvò in u tempiu, è li disse, “Eccu, sì fattu bè. Ùn peccate più, cusì chì nunda di peghju vi succede.”(Jn 5:14)

In u primu di l'esempii sopra, pò esse sustinutu chì Ghjesù hè solu riferite à u peccatu specificu di l'adulteri. Ma in u sicondu ùn ci hè micca riferimentu à i peccati specifichi. Era Ghjesù chì suggerì seriamente chì hè pussibule di campà senza peccatu?

Nisuna scusa?

Hè veramente cusì impensable quantu sona? L'apòstulu Paulu cummenta,

“Nisuna tentazione vi hà pigliatu, salvu ciò chì hè cumunu à l'omu. Diu hè fidu, chì ùn vi permetterà di esse tentatu sopra ciò chì tù sì capaci, ma vulerà cù a tentazione ancu fà a via di scappata, chì pudete esse capace di suppurtà.” (1Cor 10:13)

S'ellu hè u casu, pare chì i cristiani ùn anu micca scusa per peccatu in u futuru. Allora - chì si facemu?
