La necessità di una scelta continua

There will always be a vital element of choice. We have to choose whether or not we will look to Jesus for forgiveness, and whether or not we will focus our attention on going God’s way. God does not override our freewill; perché, as has already been explained, true love is impossible without it. There is no ‘master switch’ you can throw that will make you exempt from temptation. Even Jesus was tempted – repeatedly. He experienced exhaustion, hunger, exasperation, deception, misunderstanding, abuse and betrayal: but always chose to respond in a way that pleased his Father, Dio.

When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. (Luk 4:13)

Poi, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Mar 6:31)

… Gesù, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” … The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (Jn 4:6-9)

People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. Ha detto loro, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, perché a quelli come questi appartiene il regno di Dio. (Mar 10:13-14)

I farisei e i sadducei si avvicinarono a Gesù e lo misero alla prova chiedendogli di mostrare loro un segno dal cielo. (Mat 16:1)

Pietro lo prese da parte e cominciò a rimproverarlo. “Mai, Signore!” ha detto. “Questo non ti accadrà mai!” Gesù si voltò e disse a Pietro, “Mettiti dietro di me, Satana! Sei un ostacolo per me; non hai in mente le preoccupazioni di Dio, ma preoccupazioni puramente umane.” (Mat 16:22-23)

“… L'ho portato ai tuoi discepoli, ma non potevano guarirlo.” “Tu generazione incredula e perversa,” Gesù rispose, “quanto tempo starò con te?? Per quanto tempo ti sopporterò?? Portami qui il ragazzo.” (Mat 17:16-17)

Alcuni farisei vennero da lui per metterlo alla prova. Hanno chiesto, “È lecito ad un uomo divorziare dalla moglie per qualsiasi motivo??” (Mat 19:3)

Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are. Tell us then, what is your opinion? Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?” Ma Gesù, knowing their evil intent, disse, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? (Mat 22:15-18)

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” Stavano usando questa domanda come una trappola, per avere una base per accusarlo. (Jn 8:3-6)

Avviso, Per favore, quei sentimenti di estrema frustrazione, Dolore, rabbia, eccetera., non sono peccatori da soli: ciò che conta è ciò che facciamo con loro.

“Nella tua ira non peccare”: Non lasciare che il sole tramonti mentre sei ancora arrabbiato, e non dare appoggio al diavolo. (Eph 4:26-27)

Perché non abbiamo un sommo sacerdote che non sia in grado di entrare in empatia con le nostre debolezze, ma ne abbiamo uno che è stato tentato in ogni modo, proprio come noi, eppure non peccò. (Heb 4:15)

Qualcuno di voi può dimostrarmi colpevole di peccato?? (Jn 8:46)

Ma anche se non possiamo pretendere un’esenzione totale, possiamo evitare tentazioni inutili e superare quelle che non possiamo evitare. Questo è ciò che ha fatto Gesù; e ci ha insegnato a fare lo stesso.

Così disse Gesù, “Quando avrai innalzato il Figlio dell'uomo, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me. The one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what pleases him.” (Jn 8:28-29)

Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. (Jn 5:19)

By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me. (Jn 5:30)

For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. (Jn 6:38)

For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know that his command leads to eternal life. Quindi qualunque cosa io dica è proprio ciò che il Padre mi ha detto di dire.” (Jn 12:49-50)

Lo facciamo coltivando una relazione con Dio che sia sensibile alla Sua volontà e confida nel Suo aiuto.

“Questo, Poi, è così che dovresti pregare: ““Padre nostro che sei nei cieli”., sia santificato il tuo nome, venga il tuo regno, sia fatta la tua volontà, sulla terra come in cielo. Dacci oggi il nostro pane quotidiano. E rimetti a noi i nostri debiti, come anche noi abbiamo condonato ai nostri debitori. E non ci indurre in tentazione, ma liberaci dal maligno.’ (Mat 6:9-13)

Gesù uscì come al solito verso il monte degli Ulivi, e i suoi discepoli lo seguirono. Una volta raggiunto il posto, he said to them, “Pregate per non cadere in tentazione.” Si ritirò a un tiro di schioppo da loro, si inginocchiò e pregò, “Padre, se sei disposto, prendi da me questo calice; ma non la mia volontà, ma il tuo sia fatto.” Gli apparve un angelo dal cielo e lo fortificò. Ed essere angosciato, pregò con maggiore intensità, e il suo sudore era come gocce di sangue che cadevano a terra. Quando si alzò dalla preghiera e tornò dai discepoli, li trovò addormentati, esausto dal dolore. “Perché stai dormendo??” chiese loro. “Alzatevi e pregate per non cadere in tentazione.” (Luk 22:39-46)

Nessuna tentazione ti ha colto tranne quella che è comune all'umanità. E Dio è fedele; non permetterà che tu sia tentato oltre ciò che puoi sopportare. Ma quando sei tentato, ti fornirà anche una via d’uscita affinché tu possa sopportarlo. (1Co 10:13)

Questo processo continuo di ricerca di andare dove Dio guida, e fai quello che vuole che tu faccia, è descritto da S. Paul come "entrare". (o da) lo spirito’.

Ma dico, camminare secondo lo Spirito, e non soddisferai la concupiscenza della carne. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. (Gal 5:16-18)

Ora le opere della carne sono evidenti, quali sono: adulterio, immoralità sessuale, impurità, lussuria, idolatria, stregoneria, odio, conflitto, gelosie, scoppi di rabbia, rivalità, divisioni, eresie, invidie, omicidi, ubriachezza, orge, e cose come queste; di cui vi avverto, proprio come vi avevo preavvertito, che coloro che praticano tali cose non erediteranno il Regno di Dio. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentilezza, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal 5:19-23)

Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. If we live by the Spirit, let’s also walk by the Spirit. Let’s not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another. (Gal 5:24-26)

Notice also how this teaching by Paul harmonises with what we have already seen in the teaching of John; who describes this as walking ‘in the light’.

This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and don’t tell the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1Jn 1:5-9)

My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Gesù Cristo, the righteous. … This is how we know that we are in him: he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked. (1Jn 2:1,6)

In the Light or Under the Law? The Difference.

The Bible portrays God as having always wanted mankind to have a personal relationship with Him.

Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. (Gen 2:19)

But we know instinctively that God is Holy; and our sense of guilt and shame makes us wary of getting too close

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” (Gen 3:8-10)

This is vividly illustrated when God appeared to the children of Israel after leading them out of Egypt (Ex 20:18-21). Here is Moses’ description of what happened:

When you heard the voice out of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, all the leaders of your tribes and your elders came to me. And you said, “The LORD our God has shown us his glory and his majesty, e abbiamo udito la sua voce dal fuoco. Oggi abbiamo visto che una persona può vivere anche se Dio parla con lei. Ma ora, perché dovremmo morire? Questo grande fuoco ci consumerà, e noi moriremo se udremo ancora la voce del Signore nostro Dio. Infatti quale mortale ha mai udito la voce del Dio vivente parlare dal fuoco?, come abbiamo fatto noi, e sopravvisse? Avvicinati e ascolta tutto ciò che dice il Signore nostro Dio. Raccontaci dunque quello che ti dirà il Signore nostro Dio. Ascolteremo e obbediremo.” Il Signore ti ha ascoltato quando mi hai parlato, e il Signore mi disse, “Ho sentito cosa ti ha detto questa gente. Tutto quello che hanno detto era buono. OH, che i loro cuori fossero inclini a temermi e a osservare sempre tutti i miei comandi, affinché tutto andasse bene per loro e per i loro figli per sempre! “Andare, di' loro di tornare alle loro tende. Ma tu resta qui con me affinché io ti dia tutti i comandi, decreti e leggi insegnerai loro a osservare nel paese che io do loro in possesso.” (Deu 5:23-31)

Convinti di non poter soddisfare le norme di Dio, le persone scelsero di evitare uno stretto contatto con Lui, e ha chiesto invece una serie di regole secondo cui vivere. Ed è così che la maggior parte delle persone ha vissuto da allora. Il nostro senso di colpa ci tiene lontani da Dio; basando la nostra vita su un libro di regole (la “Legge”) piuttosto che cercare una relazione intima con Lui e dipendere dalla Sua capacità di perdonare le nostre colpe e di purificare la nostra vita e le nostre motivazioni. Ma, mandando Gesù a pagare per primo i nostri peccati, e poi venire a vivere in noi mediante il Suo Spirito, Dio ha fornito la via affinché la nostra relazione possa essere completamente restaurata – più forte e migliore di quanto non fosse mai stato prima!

Perché Dio ha tanto amato il mondo da dare il suo Figlio unigenito, affinché chiunque crede in lui non muoia, ma abbia la vita eterna. Perché Dio non ha mandato suo Figlio nel mondo per esserne giudice, ma per essere il suo salvatore. Coloro che credono nel Figlio non vengono giudicati; ma chi non crede è già stato giudicato, perché non hanno creduto nell’unigenito Figlio di Dio. Ecco come funziona il giudizio: la luce è venuta nel mondo, ma le persone amano l'oscurità piuttosto che la luce, perché le loro azioni sono malvagie. Coloro che fanno cose malvagie odiano la luce e non verranno alla luce, perché non vogliono che le loro azioni malvagie vengano messe in luce. But those who do what is true come to the light in order that the light may show that what they did was in obedience to God. (Jn 3:16-21, GNB)

Ma, “Old habits die hard,” as the saying goes; and even Christians can easily slip back into a rule-based way of living, di

• failing to cultivate a regular, daily relationship with God and sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit;
• adopting a judgemental attitude towards the faults of others;
• focussing on performance and outward measures of success, rather than heartfelt devotion; O
• settling for a less morally-demanding, ‘technical’ compliance with the strict rules of ‘the law’; whilst ignoring the higher moral demands that lie behind it.

Not There Yet!

As Christians, we can enjoy a life of freedom from the guilt of past failures, full of confidence in God’s unconditional forgiveness and acceptance of us. At the same time, we know that we still have much to learn; e potrebbero verificarsi prove serie. Ma la nostra fiducia in Dio supera ogni paura e guardiamo al futuro con gioiosa aspettativa. Come dice Paolo…

Ma qualunque cosa fosse per me un guadagno, ora lo considero una perdita per amore di Cristo. Cosa c'è di più, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. Li considero spazzatura, affinché io possa guadagnare Cristo ed essere trovato in lui, non avendo una mia giustizia derivante dalla legge, ma ciò che avviene mediante la fede in Cristo, la giustizia che viene da Dio sulla base della fede. Voglio conoscere Cristo, sì, conoscere la potenza della sua risurrezione e la partecipazione alle sue sofferenze, diventando come lui nella sua morte, e così, in qualche modo, giungere alla risurrezione dai morti. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Fratelli e sorelle, Non mi ritengo ancora di averlo preso in mano. Ma una cosa la faccio: Dimenticare ciò che è dietro e tendere verso ciò che è davanti, Proseguo verso la meta per vincere il premio per il quale Dio mi ha chiamato al cielo in Cristo Gesù. (Php 3:7-14)
